How to Install CentOS on VirtualBox ??

Step 1: Download CentOS ISO file

You can download the official image for CentOS at no cost from the official website of CentOS. <<Download Here>>

Step 2: Locate downloaded file

The downloaded .iso image for CentOS can be found on the downloads folder, if the defaults have not been changed.

Step 3: Download Virtualization Software

Go ahead and download VirtualBox. <<Download Link>>
Note:You can also go for VMWare Workstation or KVM (for Linux only)

Step 4: Open VirtualBox

Step 5: Click on "New"

After clicking on "New", the following dialogue box will appear.
Now, choose the name and destination folder for the new virtual machine. The VirtualBox is smart enough to detect the type and version of the OS automatically.

If not, update them as shown in the figure above and click Next.

Step 6: Select Memory Size

In this step, you need to select the amount of RAM in megabytes to be allocated to the virtual machine that you are going to create.

Normally, 1024MB is enough for normal tasks and is recommended too but in this tutorial we are setting it to 3034MB.

Step 7: Create a virtual hard disk

You can add a virtual hard disk to the new virtual machine that you are going to create.

Select the option "Create a virtual hard disk now" and click Create.

Now, we need to select the type of the file we prefer for our VM's hard disk.

Select "VDI(Virtual Disk Image)"which is the default option too.

Set the option to "Dynamically allocated"
In this step, specify the size of the new virtual hard disk.

25 GB is enough for normal use.

Click Create and done.

Now, after completing all the above mentioned steps, we need to configure some more settings.

Step 8: Configure Settings

Click on "Settings" of the newly created virtual machine and the following dialogue box will appear

Now, select System settings
under "Motherboard" tab set:
Pointing Device : USB Tablet

under "Processor" tab set:
Processor(s) : 2

Again, select Display settings
under "Screen" tab set:
Video Memory : 128MB

under "Graphics Controller" set: VBoxVGA (not necessary, OK with default also)

Acceleration : Enable 3D Acceleration

Again, Select Storage settings

Under Settings, click on the encircled area and select "Choose Virtual Optical Disk File".

You need to browse the .iso file for CentOS and open it up.
After that, you will now see a dialogue box something similar to this:

All the configurations have been completed. Now, click on OK and the dialogue box will disappear.

Now, click on Start and power on the virtual machine.

After powering on, you are supposed to navigate to "Install CentOS 7" and hit Enter.

After sometime, you will see the following Welcome Screen.
Select the language and hit Continue.

Now comes the main page where we need to configure a lot of things for our virtual machine to be up and running.

Under "DATE & TIME":
Set the Region to "Asia" and City to "Kathmandu" as shown in the figure below and click Done.

Under "SOFTWARE SELECTION":
Choose "Server with GUI" and click Done.

Under "INSTALLATION DESTINATION":
Choose "Automatically configure partitioning" and click Done.

Now, click Begin Installation and you will be presented with the following screen:

Now, under User Settings, set the "Root Password" and Create the User.
The installation process will begin and it will take some time to complete.

After completion the following screen will appear and "Reboot" the system:

After rebooting,

Now, accept the License and click on "FINISH CONFIGURATION"

Wait for it, you will see the CentOS login screen with the system name you used while creating your account.

Click on the account, fill up the credentials and you will see the CentOS Desktop

That's it, you're done :)

Congratulations..!!!
